Position Description
At Oak Street Health, a Medical Scribe’s role is to offer clinical documentation support for our primary care clinicians so they can concentrate on providing excellent care to our patients. Scribes support healthcare professionals at every stage of the patient care process. They gather in the morning to plan out the day’s appointments, accompany them in the exam room to watch and record, and follow up with them after the visit to help with the following stages.
These crucial members of the care team go above and beyond the traditional Scribe position by supporting their matched provider with clinical documentation. Internally, we refer to them as CISs (Clinic Informatics Specialists) in honor of their crucial contribution to rapid, precise, and accurate clinical recording.
Our Scribes become specialists in our value-based care model, the documentation and management of chronic illnesses, including ICD-10 and CPT coding, in addition to watching and recording all patient encounters in real-time. Scribes make use of this knowledge to assist providers in identifying and addressing care gaps. In-depth training in clinical processes, value-based medicine, preventive treatment for chronic illnesses, precise and detailed recording, population health data streams, and team-based care is provided to scribes while they are on the job.
The ideal applicant should dedicate at least 1-2 years to this work because our patients and doctors depend on our Scribes. This is a fantastic opportunity for those on the pre-med track who want to gain real-world, paid experience in a healthcare setting before applying to an MD, DO, PA, or NP program, as well as for those pursuing careers in public health, healthcare administration, medical coding, health informatics, or other related fields.
