Regarding the job:

The Financial Counselor offers a variety of services to patients and their families to make sure the payment collection procedure is completely explained and as comfortable as possible.

Responsibilities:

Essential Objectives

  • Recognizes the value that Orlando Health places on offering exceptional customer service, and carries out job duties in a way that supports the department’s customer service objectives.
  • Maintains efficient communication with team members and customers at all times while displaying a good attitude and professionalism.
  • Gathers and enters financial and demographic data about the patient and the guarantor efficiently and precisely. Contacts the admitting or primary care physician to get the appropriate authorizations, diagnoses, and procedure details.
  • Explains the paperwork and gets the patient’s or the guarantor’s signature.
  • Makes contact with the proper payers, confirming benefits and securing required authorizations.
  • Describes insurance benefits and collects any outstanding copays, deductibles, and self-pay amounts.
  • When necessary, collects money for connected professional care.
  • information about benefits and authorization is recorded in the registration system.
  • Assembles the patient’s file and obtains copies of all pertinent papers, such as insurance cards, photo IDs, and any advance directives.
  • Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of the rules and guidelines governing third-party reimbursement.
  • Uses Web-based resources, electronic verification tools, and all registration systems with proficiency.
  • Follows Patient Financial Services’ self-pay guidelines, which include submitting the application for a guarantor financial statement, outlining the several payment alternatives, and collecting any outstanding debts.
  • Adheres to the cash handling policies of Patient Financial Services.
  • Carries out fundamental cashiering duties for oneself.
  • Follows policy rules for gathering and inventorying patient valuables.
  • Maintains a fundamental awareness of the processes in place and the medical necessity screening process.
  • Calls the patient/guarantor, insurance companies, and doctors offices, as necessary, to carry out the proper pre-registration tasks.
  • Maintains departmental logs so that statistics can be reported.
  • consistently passes the department’s and Patient Access’s Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Meets departmental objectives for productivity, customer satisfaction, and collections.
  • Maintains a flexible work plan available so that the department can alter the timetable as necessary to suit its demands.
  • Fulfills hospital, state, and federal compliance requirements.
  • Consistent with Orlando Health regulations, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local laws, maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance.
  • upholds adherence to all regulations and guidelines of Orlando Health.

Other Additional Objectives:

  • Participates in departmental staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • All Patient Financial Services and departmental education programs must be reviewed and followed.
  • Satisfies all corporate and Patient Financial Services standards for yearly recertification and education.
  • Assists plan and organize departmental activities with the manager.

Qualifications:

Education/Training:

  • High School¬†or its equivalent education.
  • The Patient Financial Services Orientation program must be completed, as well as any ongoing educational requirements.

Licensure/Certification: None

Experience:

  • It is necessary to have two (2) years of experience working in a financial, office, or customer service setting.
  • Proficient with Windows-based Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Typing skill.
  • One year of PC and Windows experience.
